Vintage Smut Sunday: Victorian role playing – monk and slave (gay erotica, NSFW)

I promised you some more explicit Victorian pics, so here we go! This set of five photographs is proof that people have always loved a bit of role play in their porn. I wonder if there are any Victorian plumber/handyman sets out there?

Those of you who are triggered by such things be warned: this set of pictures features a white man dressed as a monk with a black slave. There isn’t anything like abuse depicted–both parties seem to be enjoying themselves and the slave isn’t bound, but he does sport metal cuffs in a few of the pictures.

#1: That straw looks terribly uncomfortable!

#2: Love the visual of the swing and the expression on slave man’s face.

#3: There’s something really dynamic about this pic, and they’re really communicating with their eyes. Also: check out those balls!

#4: Is this fisting or just an unfortunately staged reach around? The mind boggles.

#5: I love the expression on our cheeky monk’s face!

Which is your favourite pic, and why?

Next week: I believe I promised some bath house pics, so I’ll have to see what I can rustle up!

  1. Heh, no, not fisting, I think it’s just the fact that it’s shadowed and his hand is dark, but I think he’s just guiding it in. I imagine all the times they had to stop and hold while the photographer fixed that monk’s robe. Lots of fabric going on there. All that straw does look itchy and pokey too.

    1. Yeah, I didn’t think it could be fisting really, but it made me do a double take! There is a huge amount of fabric there, but I expect the photographer rather enjoyed the folds and the way they caught the light. There’s definite artistry in these pics 🙂

    1. Thanks, Macky! I was amazed I only just discovered these. I’d thought I’d already seen all the really early explicit gay pics, but this gives me hope there’ll be more out there to discover 😀

      1. Sorry, I have no idea. All I know is that most of the photographic erotica from this era was French, so I’m guessing this might be too.

  3. Oh my gosh, you found some good ones this week!! They’re all so good. Definitely communication going on, and dare I say… a level of caring? Fantabulous!

    1. There does seem to be some kind of relationship beyond “I’m only doing this for money”, doesn’t there? I love it when you feel the couple might be together outside of the shoot 🙂

  4. I’m itchy just looking at these. I can’t even lie on grass without itching. Straw — yeah no.

I’ll echo the others about the priest’s face in the last one. Though the guy doing the rimming seems to me to be eying the photographer with a “I’ve got a crick in my neck, can we move this along?” kind of expression.

  5. My pioneer grandfather came here to northern Minnesota from Finland in 1905 and had several homemade benches on the farm that were eerily similar to the one in pictures 3,4 and 5. Now I have to wonder if Grandpa and Grandma ever used their benches to indulge (or perhaps a couple of the early lumberjacks who often boarded with them did so)! Great photos, Jo… and I love your writing! Thanks for these great pictures!

  6. Ha! Brilliant–thanks for sharing that, Nancy. You just never know what action old pieces of furniture have seen, do you? Would love to have some kind of magical spying device to watch what went on behind closed doors in the past. Yep, just call me a voyeur!

  7. This is not a slave but was title European monk and iberian penninsula moor from 1892. There is a series the Moor and monk are in the chapel,

    1. Thanks for clearing that up, John. I originally found it online titled Monk and slave series, hence the misunderstanding.
